CAN continues to grow! 🌟

In 2026, nearly 340 students from 65 schools joined us across 9 locations in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Along the way, students challenged themselves, discovered new interests, built confidence and made memories to last well beyond summer.

CAN also helped strengthen the future of rural education, providing nearly 30 college students with paid, hands-on teaching experience alongside more than 40 local educators.

And we’re not slowing down. New locations are coming in 2027!

Exciting news! 🎉

Compass Academy Network has been selected as a 2026 Community Impact Grant recipient through the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas! The grant will support leadership curriculum equipping students with the character, confidence, and critical life skills needed to thrive in school and beyond as a part of CAN programming in Southeast Kansas for 2027, helping us continue creating meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, build confidence and discover what they’re capable of.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas for investing in local youth and the future of our communities.

And we’re excited for what’s ahead in 2027! 🚀

Some of the most important learning happens when students get out into the community and experience it for themselves.

CAN Joplin’s “Joplin: Past, Present, and Future” field trip this summer gave students the opportunity to see how a community works, learn from the people who helped shape it, and better understand the role they can play in its future.

Experiences like these turn lessons into something real. They expose students to new people, places, careers and ideas while helping them build curiosity, confidence and a stronger connection to the community around them.

Because when students get the chance to see what’s possible, they can start imagining where they fit into it.

At Compass Academy Network, fun and movement are part of the learning. 🙌

Through games and active challenges led by our Peer Mentors, students get moving while building skills that go far beyond fitness. They learn to work together, solve problems, communicate, overcome challenges and support one another.

Because sometimes the best learning happens when kids are moving, playing, laughing and figuring things out together.

Play with purpose. Move with confidence. Grow together. 💪

Fun can also be challenging! 💪

At Compass Academy Network, some of the best moments come from being challenged — trying something new, working through a problem, building a new skill and discovering, “Hey, I can do this.”

That’s what our summer programming is all about: making learning fun while giving students opportunities to stretch themselves, build confidence and experience the pride that comes with real achievement.

And as students head back to school soon, we hope the challenges they tackled this summer have them walking into a new school year a little more confident, a little more prepared and ready to take on whatever comes next. 🙌

What a special way to wrap up an incredible summer!

Friday's Compass Academy Network graduation ceremony at Missouri Southern State University celebrated the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of our Joplin students. Over the past several weeks, they've challenged themselves, built new friendships, gained confidence, and created memories that will last long after summer ends.

Congratulations to every graduate! We're so proud of everything you've accomplished and can't wait to see where your journey takes you next.
