Scattered to numerous thunderstorms expected this afternoon and evening. Storms are developing across the watch area and will continue moving east through the evening. Initially, storms may form as individual cells and small clusters capable of producing large hail, but a transition to bands and lines of storms is expected with time. As this occurs, the primary threat will become damaging straight-line winds capable of downing trees and causing power outages.

was located near Beechwood Trails, moving east at 45 mph.

likely.

➡️Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are expected to impact the region through this afternoon and evening. A powerful bow echo moving across northwest Indiana will be one of the primary concerns as it races eastward.
The greatest threat will be damaging straight-line winds, which may cause downed trees, power outages, and structural damage. While wind is the main hazard, isolated tornadoes and pockets of large hail remain possible.

➡️The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded portions of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio to an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Tuesday, with a growing signal that a derecho-producing mesoscale convective system (MCS) could develop and track southeast across the region.

⬇️What is a Derecho?
➡️A derecho is a widespread, long-lived windstorm associated with a fast-moving line or cluster of thunderstorms. To be classified as a derecho, the storm must produce a long swath of damaging winds, often extending hundreds of miles, with numerous severe wind reports along its path.
➡️Unlike tornadoes, a derecho's damage is caused primarily by straight-line winds, which can be just as destructive and sometimes stronger than winds in weaker tornadoes. Wind gusts occasionally exceeding 75-100 mph.

⬇️Tuesday's Setup
➡️Atmospheric ingredients appear to be coming together for an organized severe weather event:
• Extremely unstable air with forecast CAPE values over 3,000 J/kg.
• Strong mid-level winds and favorable storm organization.
