two attic windows primed, reglazed and going back into an 1890s farmhouse, and a main floor single pane sash that needs a replacement glass that will be going back in as soon as I get it done.
If this wood is actually American chestnut, like I believe, not only is it extinct it’s very rare and very rot resistant, and every time an old farmhouse gets demolished I wonder how valuable of materials that person just threw away without knowing it….
The bottom sash has a very tiny bit of rot in the corners because it hasn’t had any paint on it in at least 50 years that we know of.
What store-bought lumber today do you know of that will last that long without paint??
We don’t throw away this stuff- we repair it with wood epoxy, or dutchman patches. It will last four times as long as a new replacement window.

I guarantee you won’t find anything at the store that has the tight grain line markings of these…

Time lapse scraping paint with my - so satisfying!!
A much safer way to abate lead paint then heat guns or chemical st*****rs..
Did you know it’s likely only about a third of the cost to repair your historic wood windows than it is to replace them? And they will last four times as long as a new vinyl or aluminum window? With about the same energy efficiency?
Don’t fall for the window replacement scams. Do you need some old historic windows to match a few that you were missing? Do you need some original storm windows? I might have some on hand! I have over 100 window frames in stock that can be restored for you.

Not a bad office for a few weeks! Shady, breezy and peaceful! Restoring some 1890’s double hung wavy glass windows, replacing broken panes, failed glazing (one pane had a 1/4” gap letting air in). These windows will last another 80-100!

I’ve been noticing an increase in people learning to sew and upcycling thrifted clothes- which I’ve been doing for years, and in all that time, I have collected a large amount of really great vintage patterns. i’m planning on making some of these tops as samples for classes that I will be teaching the teacher and I was curious if any of these patterns or styles look like something you would be interested in learning how to make, or be a part of a pattern club that preserves and shares these designs in an open source fashion while providing supplies and classes to support learners.
I’m going to be sharing some polling questions as we go to choose the kinds of classes and designs that are offered, and if you would be interested in taking an in person or online class on making a simple shirt or tank top, I’d love to know what kinds of styles I should be preparing!
Here are some examples if you see any I already have, or feel free to share your own
