The “Book of the Month” is a regular post highlighting one of the many resources available from KWU’s extensive digital library. September’s “Book of the Month” is Building Business Value Through Talent: The CEO and CHRO Partnership Guide (2021), by Thomas McGuire and Linda Brenner.
This eBook provides fundamental information for CEOs interested in connecting talent with business strategies to maximize intellectual capital. It’s written in the format of a product guide with chapter titles such as, “Features at a Glance,” “Installation,” “Controls,” “Changing the Filter,” and “Care and Maintenance.” The product isn’t a car however, but an updated HR operating model, linking enterprise value to talent in our modern, knowledge-based economy.
People’s talent is the only source of intellectual capital and is becoming an increasing part of an enterprise’s market value. This framework calls for a dynamic partnership between CEOs and HR to jointly create business-based talent planning and investment strategies. This e-book provides the tools and insights for CEOs to strategically plan, attract, manage, and reward their talented workforce in a competitive market, resulting in sustainable and measurable intellectual capital growth.

August 2022 Book of the Month
Dynamic Future-Proofing: Integrating Disruption into Everyday Business. By Alexander Manu. (2021, Emerald Publishing Limited)
The “Book of the Month” is a regular post highlighting one of the many resources available from KWU’s extensive digital library. August's “Book of the Month” prepares business executives to harness times of profound and rapid disruption as opportunities for innovation and transformative new wealth creation.
This book prepares executives for the challenge of creating a culture of discovery and exploration to encourage strategic transformation during times of disruption. In the context of this book, a Disruptor is defined as technology, and Disruption as the human being engaged in a new behavior. Part one one includes conceptual frameworks and future-proofing methodologies. Part two includes foundational technologies and mindsets for the emerging present. Part three presents dynamic models of engagement, and parts four and five cover retooling and prototyping for the future.
The author, Alexander Manu, is a Strategic Foresight Practitioner, international lecturer, and provides future based advisory to executives in Fortune 500 companies. His framework is not about predicting the future, but creating it, through leadership, awareness, intelligent informed opinion, and rapid action in times of change.
We encourage all KWU students to check out this book in our ProQuest eBook Central: Academic Complete database in our e-library today!
