Featured Remote Job: Professional Writer / Blogger. There are several misconceptions about starting a blog, one is you will become a millionaire overnight Ha! This is a very typical answer by those who don't actually write professionally, yes I said professionally. But starting a blog is actually very easy, you just need a few simple things to start telling your story and monetizing it:
1. Website to host your blog (there are several free and paid options)
2. A passion you write about (one you will CONTINUE to write about on a regular basis)
3. Ways to monetize your blog (lead capture, sales, sponsorship, etc.)
Yes, most people think you just put down random thoughts and the world will beat a path to your door. You are more like to succeed when you have a consistent message (like when I talk about working remotely here on RemoteMinded) you develop a readership who has an affinity with your message. You will need the following skills to have long-term success with your blog:
1. Organization (develop an editorial calendar so you will know what your topics will be ahead of time)
2. Writing skills (correct grammer still matters, but you will improve as you go)
3. SEO skills (again, you will improve as you go along)
4. Sales skills (there are several ways to monetize your blog)
5. Time Management (posting regularly goes a long way with your readers)
6. WordPress skills (knowing which plugins to use, setting up a newsletter, etc.)
7. Networking skills (posting content on other website, getting paying clients and sponsors)
8. Product Development (different types of professional writing; email campaigns, marketing materials, etc.)
