Day 5 Final Day: How to Make Good Training STICK Forever

Happy Monday and welcome back to Training with Kindness. Today is Day 5, the FINAL day of Fixing Broken Training.

Where we will discuss how to make good training STICK.

Good training dies when we stop celebrating it.

If you only speak up when they get it wrong, they will stop trying. They will shut down and only focus on the negative. Let's be honest, we all know when we are criticized, we dwell on that over and over.

You have to CATCH THEM DOING IT RIGHT, even the smallest thing and highlight that moment.

Fixing training isn't a one-day project. It's a daily habit. Every day, observe one training moment and praise one kind behavior in private. That's leadership. When you praise kindness, kindness repeats.

Managers, broken training doesn't fix itself but kind training fixes almost everything else. Your turnover, your customer complaints, your stress, it all gets better when training gets better.

So this wraps up How to Fix Broken Training.

Day 1: The Real Reason
Day 2: Stop Blaming
Day 3: The 3 Cracks
Day 4: The Kind Reset
Day 5: Make It Stick

Tomorrow we will start our series on How to Lead Difficult Conversations with Kindness. This is one of my favorite topics. Follow or subscribe for daily training tips and tricks.

Make today your first day of a positive workplace.

The Kind Reset: 30 Minutes to Fix Broken Training Forever

Yesterday we found the 3 cracks. Today, Day 4, we FIX them.

Managers - you don't have to rewrite your whole manual. You need The Kind Reset. Just 30 minutes tomorrow morning.

Here's the 3-step fix:

STEP 1: Fix Inconsistency with ONE WAY.
Pick ONE task that always gets messed up - greeting a table, answering the phone, opening the register. Write down the ONE way you want it done in 3 to 5 steps max. Not in a binder. On one laminated card. Tomorrow tell your team, "This is the one way we are all going to train this, starting today." You just fixed Crack 1. Woo hoo!

STEP 2: Fix No Words with ONE SCRIPT.
Your trainers need kind words. Give them this script: "This part trips everyone up, so let me show you the trick I use." And "You're doing exactly what you should be doing on Day 2." That replaces "It's easy" and it protects the new hire's confidence. Write it on the back of that same card. You just fixed Crack 2.

STEP 3: Fix No Follow-Up with ONE CHECK-IN.
Put a 15-minute check-in on your calendar for Day 2. Not to test them. To ask: "What went well yesterday and where did you get stuck?" When you ask with kindness, they will actually tell you. You just fixed Crack 3.

One Way. One Script. One Check-in. That's your Kind Reset.

Do that reset tomorrow morning before your shift. Your team will feel it immediately. Monday is our final day - How to Make It STICK so you never have to fix it again.

The 3 Cracks That Break Every Training System (Day 3)

Description / Caption:
Welcome back to Training with Kindness - Day 3 of Fixing Broken Training.

I see these 3 cracks in almost every business I walk into in Wilmington and beyond:

CRACK 1: Inconsistency. This is when Sarah trains one way, Mike trains another way and the closing manager does it a totally different way. Your new hire isn't confused because they are slow. They are confused because you have three different versions of "the right way."

CRACK 2: No Words. This is the silent killer. Your best employee knows how to do the job perfectly. But they have no idea what to say when they are training someone. If you don't give your trainers kind scripts, they will give your new hires shame.

CRACK 3: No Follow Up. We spend two hours training on day one and then we disappear until day ten when they make a mistake and we say, "we already trained you on this." Training is not an event. It's a process.

Managers - walk your store today and audit: Do you have Crack 1, 2, or 3?

Good news: All three can be fixed tomorrow with The Kind Reset. Follow ACR Training Solutions so you don't miss Day 4.

Stop Blaming The New Hire. Own The System.

It's easy to say "They just don't get it" or "This generation doesn't want to work."

Kind leaders own the system. They don't blame the person.

Tonight after your shift, ask these 3 questions:

Did my new hire get the SAME training as everyone else, or just whoever was available?
Did my trainer have the actual WORDS to use, or did I just assume they knew how to be kind?
Did I check in at the end of Day 1 and Day 2, or only when something went wrong?
If you answered no to any of those, you just found your fix.

Tomorrow: The 3 cracks that break every training system.

Confidence. Taught with kindness.

Your New Hires Aren't Lazy. Your Training is Broken.

Your new hires aren't quitting because they're lazy. They're quitting because our training made them feel stupid on Day 1 and invisible on Day 2.

I talked to a GM in Wilmington last month who said "I can't find good people." But when I asked about her first 2 days of training? Watch videos, shadow whoever's available, then sink or swim.

That's not a training plan. That's hoping for the best.

This week, we're fixing broken training. With kindness.

WEEK 5 RECAP: Stop Training Everyone Yourself

Managers, let's be honest... are you STILL the only one who can train? 😩

If you are, you don't have a team. You have a bottleneck.

This week in my Training with Kindness series, I taught you how to finally hand off training without losing quality:

βœ… Who to pick (hint: it's NOT your fastest employee)
βœ… The 3-step handoff that prevents abandonment: I Do, We Do, You Do
βœ… The exact kind words to give your new trainers
βœ… How to let go without letting them down

Your culture multiplies when you coach your trainers with kindness.

Which lesson from this week hit you the hardest? Let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡

Follow for Week 6 - I'm going to show you how to fix training when it's already gone wrong.

How to Let Go Without Letting Down

Training with Kindness | Week 5 - Training Your Best People to Be Trainers

We made it to the final day!

Letting go does not mean walking away. It means checking in. Supportive, not hovering.

Try this today:

After your new trainer finishes, privately ask: "What went well? And where did you get stuck?"

Then coach with kindness. Praise what you want repeated. Example: "I saw how you let them try even though they were slow. That's leadership."

When you train trainers with kindness, they train with kindness. That's how culture multiplies.

Managers, your legacy is not how well you trained. It's how well your trainers train when you're not in the room.

Follow ACR Training Solutions for weekly Training with Kindness tips.

The 3-Step Handoff Every Manager Needs to Know

"You're a trainer now, go train them." πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ That's not a handoff. That's abandonment.

If you want consistent training, you have to train your trainers with support.

Try this instead: I Do, We Do, You Do

I DO: They watch you and you narrate the why.
WE DO: You train together, they lead, you're right there.
YOU DO: They train, you observe and praise in private.

You never leave them alone to fail.

Train your trainers the way you want them to train others. With support, not sink or swim.

What’s your current handoff process? Is it working? Let me know in the comments.

Stop picking your fastest employee to train new hires. πŸ‘‡

Don't pick your fastest employee. Don't pick your longest-tenured employee.

Pick your kindest, most patient employee.

The one who already helps without being asked.
The one people go to when they are stuck.

Ask yourself 3 questions:

Who stays calm when it's busy?
Who explains without sighing?
Who celebrates others?
That's your trainer. You can teach the process. You cannot teach patience.

This week we are learning how to hand off training by training your best people to be trainers.

Who is that person on YOUR team? Tag them below and tell them thank you. πŸ‘‡
