We are proud to announce that our School of Innovation status has been renewed by the Mississippi Department of Education! Here’s to more years of providing equitable access to a post secondary education to the scholars of Jackson Public Schools ! 💙❤️💙❤️

At the May 5 Jackson Public Schools Board meeting, the Mississippi Department of Education presented JPS with official banners recognizing two Schools of Innovation.

JPS created the JPS–Tougaloo Early College High School (JTECHS) and the Jackson Middle College Programs to give scholars strong head starts beyond high school. Through these programs, scholars have the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree from Tougaloo College or Jackson State University.

These initiatives reflect the district’s continued focus on preparing scholars with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed for success in college and career pathways.

Each time JPS renews its application with the state, the district is honored with these official banners from MDE, a recognition of the ongoing work happening across Jackson schools.

Chinelo Graves with MDE noted, “The things that have been put in place in Jackson, even many years ago, others are aspiring to accomplish.”

Congratulations to our principals and teams supporting each school and keep up the great work!

During Teacher Appreciation Week at the May 5 Board meeting, outstanding educators within Jackson Public Schools were recognized for their exceptional dedication to science education and scholar achievement. These teachers demonstrated an unwavering commitment by leading impactful school-level science fairs with over 100 scholar participants and supporting scholars as they advanced to district, regional, and state competitions.

Their efforts extended beyond the classroom, as they mentored scholars to think critically, communicate scientific reasoning, and strive for excellence. Through their leadership and persistence, scholars were not only successful in competition but also positioned for future academic opportunities, including scholarships.

In recognition of their impact, and in partnership with Enough! Girl Get Up, each educator received a Certificate of Outstanding Dedication and $100 classroom bucks, honoring their leadership, mentorship, and commitment to advancing science education and scholar success.

Talk about a Sunday well spent! Congratulations to the Class of 2026!

Congratulations JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School Graduating Class of 2026. 🎓👏🏽

This group just made history. This year’s class represents the largest number of scholars to earn an associate degree through the program, with 31 scholars hitting that milestone. Let that sink in… high school diploma AND a college degree at the same time. That’s major.

For those who may not know, Jackson Public Schools launched the JPS-Tougaloo Early College High School program in partnership with Tougaloo College back in 2018. Since then, scholars have been doing the work, balancing high school requirements while taking real college courses on a college campus. Scholars must maintain at least a 3.0, show up, stay focused, and carry themselves the right way. And this class did exactly that.

From ninth grade to senior year, they stayed the course, pushed through the challenges, and took full advantage of an opportunity that’s setting them up for what’s next in a big way.

Class of 2026, you didn’t just graduate… you’ve set the bar high for every class coming behind you. 💙
