Pi Beta Phi® Fraternity Jackson-Metro Alumnae Club is excited to announce that Jackson, Mississippi has been chosen as a host city for the 3rf annual Fraternity Day of Service Signature Event. February 26-27, 2016, Pi Phi women and volunteers will distribute 20,000 new books to schools, after-school programs, and community programs serving students from low-income families and Title I schools thro
ughout Mississippi. For many of the students, these are the first new books they have ever owned and are the first step to creating a lifelong love of reading. The Pi Beta Phi’s Fraternity Day of Service is an annual event bringing Pi Phis together to serve their communities through literacy service. At the event, Pi Phis will distribute books and provide activities for children. The Jackson, MS Signature Event will be held at the Eudora Welty Library in downtown Jackson. On Friday, February 26, the JAMC will invite local organizations, such as head start, for a community day, to receive books and take part in special activities hosted by the JMAC. Saturday, February 27, is the official Fraternity Day of Service, when the JAMC and the other volunteers will distribute 20,000 books to schools and organizations from all parts of Mississippi. Pi Beta Phi is helping put books into the hands of these deserving children in partnership with First Book®, a nonprofit providing new books to its national network of schools and programs. Over the past several years, Pi Beta Phi has donated $1 million to literacy causes and given one million books to children in need. Now, the goal is to impact one million lives through its philanthropy Read > Lead > Achieve® by the time Pi Beta Phi celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2017.
