Three generations.

And when you place them side by side, you start to notice the things no one intentionally passed down.

The same smile.
The same hands.
The same way they tilt their head when they laugh.
A mannerism that belonged to Grandma first, then somehow found its way into her daughter—and now her granddaughter.

We inherit so much more than names.

We inherit stories. Expressions. Traditions. Little ways of moving through the world that quietly say, you came from somewhere.

This is what I want our Legacy Family Sessions to hold.

Not simply a photograph of three generations together, but evidence of the invisible threads running between them.

And in this next season of Candor Studio, we’re going even deeper.

Living Legacy will take the idea of preservation beyond the photograph—pairing editorial portraits with recorded conversation, stories, voices, laughter, and the words you hope the generations after you will still know.

Because one day, someone will want to know more than what her grandmother looked like.

She’ll want to know what made her laugh.
What she believed.
What she learned.
What her hands created.
What she hoped her family would carry forward.

Photographs let us see where we came from.

The hills go gold before you're ready for them to.

They've been doing it for hundreds of years — the same oaks, the same dry grass, the same rolling landscape that doesn't care what year it is. Families have gathered here across generations, in all their ordinary moments, not realizing until later that ordinary was exactly what was worth keeping.

This is that moment. Right now, while it still feels like just another afternoon. The kind that becomes part of the family story. The kind that gets passed down.

Before the vows. Before the guests arrive. Before the day becomes a blur of names and handshakes and someone's elbow in your ribs during the first dance.

There is this: a woman alone in her dress. Not performing. Not yet married. Still entirely herself.

Studio bridal sessions exist for this moment. The images usually end up framed in someone's living room — a gift to her parents, to the people who remember when she was six years old and had opinions about everything and absolutely still does. But she gets something too. An afternoon to be in her dress before it becomes the dress she got married in. A record of who she was right before everything changed.

Some things are worth photographing twice. The wedding. And the day before the wedding that belongs to only her.

So we went somewhere that required directions, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to get your dress a little dirty. After the ceremony, the family didn't head to a reception hall. They went camping. RVs, a fire, the kind of night you spend outside because nowhere inside could hold what just happened.

The baby rolls are starting to disappear. First steps are happening. That tiny personality is suddenly taking up the whole room—and somehow the year you thought would last forever is already behind you.

First birthdays deserve to be remembered for more than the cake.

Hi, I’m Janna — photographer, creative, and the heart behind The Candor Studio.

I’ve spent nearly a decade photographing people, businesses, beginnings, milestones, and all the ordinary pieces in between. Somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t particularly interested in creating content for content’s sake.

I’m interested in what lasts.

The photograph your children will recognize themselves in twenty years from now.
The business someone had the courage to begin.
The family recipe, the weathered hands, the vineyard rows, the sign that’s hung above the door for three generations.
The work that gets printed, framed, passed down, and remembered.

That’s the heart behind Candor.

We create visual archives for modern families and heritage-minded brands — with imagery that feels considered, lived-in, and distinctly yours.

Because whether I’m documenting a family or building a visual world around a business, I’m always asking the same question:
