This past Monday, our doulas Alexandra Harper-Brees and Kristen Schell took Spinning Babies again to keep our skills sharp. Each time we take it, we learn something new! We're grateful to McLaren Greater Lansing for hosting the training. The Spinning Babies trainer, Tammy Ryan, was amazing.
In the second picture, Alexandra was happy to volunteer to allow Tammy to demo how to do one of their body balancing moves - the Jiggle. When done correctly, it's very calming and help release the fascia tissue which also helps regulate your nervous system.
One of our doulas - Keana Lofton was also going to be there but couldn't because - get this - she was at a birth haha. Doulas will drop everything to support their birthing families when we need them. ❤
Our other doulas are signed up to take Spinning Babies training at other locations.

This Saturday, August 1st at Hillsdale's Biggby location, there will be an in-person childbirth education class taught by Doula Elizabeth from 9am-12pm.

We have an online postpartum prep class next week Wed on 6/24 from 6-8:30pm taught by Doula Cynthia Gabriel of Tree Town Doulas and she's also author of book "Natural Hospital Birth: Best of Both Worlds."
We had a student registered for this class twice! Once to attend with her spouse (he was excited to learn how to be a supportive father and partner) and once to attend with her mom. Grandma wanted to learn more about postpartum, what the latest recommendations are so that she can best support her daughter and grandson. Isn't that sweet? 😭🥹

The Center for Family Health is partnering with Car Seats in South Central Michigan to host a FREE Car Seat Check Event on June 20, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at our Jackson Street location.
This event helps families make sure their children's car seats are installed correctly and are appropriate for their age and size. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to provide education, inspections, and installation assistance. A limited number of free replacement seats will also be available for qualifying children.
We're excited that RxKids was officially launched in Jackson this past Monday on June 1st! If you are pregnant or gave birth after 6/1/26 and are a resident of city of Jackson or Blackman Charter Township, you may qualify for cash assistance. $1500 for pregnancy (must be past 16 weeks) and $500 a month for the first 6 months of the baby's life.
We at Better Birth Jackson have already seen positive impacts of this program in other communities that our clients lives. They found in those communities there were lower rates of premature births, lower rates of NICU stays, better health outcomes for Mom/parent and baby. More housing stability, lower rates of CPS cases, higher rates of people getting prenatal care, lower rates of childhood poverty and the list goes on.

Happy to represent doulas at a community event training about Urgent Maternal Warning Signs so that we can better be equipped to recognize signs and teach our clients on how to advocate to be looked at if there are concerns during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Don't just prepare for birth but also postpartum! We have upcoming postpartum prep classes. One is this coming Thursday, May 14th at 6-8:30pm. Register today. Spots are limited to ensure time to ask questions!
The classes are sliding scale from $0-50. The prices are self selected - we do not ask for proof of income (Free spots are covered by a grant)
The interactive class are 2.5 hours long and registration is required so that we can send you a link to the online video meeting.
Each class will raffle off a $50 value gift basket for those who attend.
