The Hindu Student Council at Cornell University aims to bring the traditions and culture of Hinduism to Ithaca! We host weekly bhajans and discussions, as well as pujas for larger Hindu holidays. Our most popular event is Holi, the festival of colors. Our Diwali Dhamaka in Klarman this year was also a smashing success and we hope to see the event grow in the future. H O L I

HSC brings the luminous festivities of Diwali to Cornell's campus. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness. 2013 was the first annual Diwali Mela. Activities include diya painting, dancing, food, cardboard cutouts of Bollywood stars, and of course, lights! P U J A S and P R A Y E R S
For larger Hindu holidays, HSC hosts pujas in the Anabel Taylor chapel room. Pujas have included Saraswati puja at the end of the semester, Shivaratri, Diwali, Ganesha puja, and Ramanavami. Our latest pujas have been individualized. Participants receive their own puja kit to follow along with our student pujari. B H A J A N S

Every other week, HSC opens up a topic for discussion relating to Hinduism, religiousity, spirituality, and the link to the modern day and age. We ground our discussions in the Hindu scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita, the Vedas, and the Upanishads, among others. Recent topics include the "true form of Krishna," "the origins of the world," and "sexuality in Hinduism."
