Ithaca College awards bachelor of science and master of science degrees in speech-language pathology. The undergraduate program provides an excellent clinical and academic foundation in basic human communication processes, development, and disorders while providing a broad-based experience in liberal arts and general education. The capstone experience of the undergraduate degree in SLP is experiential learning through clinical practica during the junior or senior year at the Sir Alexander Ewing-Ithaca College Speech and Hearing Clinic or at an approved off-campus clinic site, such as Longview or Head Start. The graduate education program in SLP at Ithaca College is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). This means that students who complete either graduate program will be eligible to apply for the Certificate in Clinical Competence in Speech-Language-Pathology (CCC-SLP) issued by ASHA upon passing the PRAXIS examination and completing a Clinical Fellowship (CF). http://www.ithaca.edu/hshp/depts/slpa

Recent graduates complete their required post-graduate Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) before earning full national certification in Speech-Language Pathology. We’re excited to welcome Dr. Carly Jo Hosbach-Cannon as the new Chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology!

Dr. Hosbach-Cannon transitions into this role from her position as a faculty member within the department, with special interests in anatomy and physiology, speech science, and voice and swallowing. We’re thrilled to welcome her into this new role and look forward to the leadership ahead!

Upstate Medical Center is seeking three additional student volunteers for the Central New York Stroke Camp, which will be held September 11–13 in Lowville, NY.

Stroke Camp is a unique weekend experience that brings together stroke survivors, caregivers, and healthcare volunteers for education, recreation, and community. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn, build clinical skills, and connect with individuals living with stroke in a supportive environment.

Volunteer commitment:
Friday, September 11 at 9:00 a.m. through Sunday, September 13 at 12:00 p.m.
Volunteers are expected to attend the entire weekend.
Health professions students are especially encouraged to participate!
