El Segundo High School Cross Country 2024 👏🏼💪🏻🥳

Thanks to our local for fueling us with your delicious Farm Club sandwiches before our race today! Our kids competed well at our Pioneer League meet in Palos Verdes! The kids ran tough up Agony and Misery hills with strong finishes to complete their 3 mile race. I’m proud of all of our runners, so much so that tomorrow they get the day off from practice to rest and recover! Way to go Eagles!

Our JV boys placed 3rd this afternoon at the Huntington Beach Invite! We are so proud of how hard all of you have worked and love to see your hard work pay off!! Way to go El Segundo!

Tonight we hosted our first team dinner from our Cross Country garage! We setup our makeshift spaghetti dinner surrounded by all of our workout equipment. All the kids contributed by bringing all the sides and drinks. We had a great time together and are excited for our first meet out in Pomona tomorrow! Let’s go Eagles!

Adam and Vicken take 5th and 7th at league finals! And both going sub 16 for the first time! Boys Varsity takes 3rd overall! Great effort by the whole team..what a way to finish the regular season!

14:39….New School Record! WOW!!!! Very few truly understand, can full comprehend, or ever embrace the GRIND! Those who do, will truly appreciate it when someone puts in the work and hit their goals. 5am doubles, 18 mile long runs, 16 mile tempos (oops 🤣), countless missed events to stay focused, visits to the PT and masseuse, extra work Sundays, workouts that test your will….why? To See What We Are Truly Capable Of!!!! This young man did it. He stayed focused, set a goal, rolled up his sleeves, put in the work and went after it! Congrats this is one of many well deserved accomplishments. Just happy and proud to be along for the ride, amazing job Luca.

El Segundo XC Boys open their season tomorrow @ CSULB in the So Cal XC Opener. Looking to knock the rust off those legs and start 2022 with a bang! Let’s GO Eagles!

Took me a moment to sit down and do this post. Part of me was hoping that somehow we would see the score change on Finished Results and we would have one more week together and a trip up to Fresno. The boys and girls fought till the end and narrowly missed making it to CIF State (girls by 4 points and guys by 11). Huge congrats to Luca Romero for qualifying as an individual!! We are so proud of you…go show Fresno how these Eagles can fly!
In thinking about this season and the outcome, I thought about The Rolling Stones lyrics “you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need”. That resonated with me. After all we have collectively been through over the past year and a half, this season was what we all needed. Being together, practicing as a group, long bus rides to the middle of nowhere to run, Big Bear talent show, 5am bus rides, trip to In-N-Out after a race, silly TikTok dance battles, ice baths as a group, pizza parties, hugs after a hard workout, sharing war stories from a recent race, congratulating each other for a big PR, weights, stalking competition of Strava, laughing together, setting huge goals and running after them, high fives, simple acts of love and recognition from teammates! These are the things that make this sport and our team amazing. You are all champions to me each day you make the choice to lace up and run hard! We all end this season as better versions of who we were at the start of this season! Thank you Eagles for another amazing season. PROUD BUT NEVER SATISFIED

The Eagles move on to CIF Finals! After no CIF action last season, it was nice to finally see our Eagles fly again. The guys, led by Luca, qualified with a 4th place finish in their heat. Ryu, Owen, Nasai, Luke, Ben and Malachi finish of our 7. The girls qualified with a 3rd place finish after being paced by Iliana. Ami, Tyler, and Yuvia were close behind. Big race from Angela to round out or scoring 5. Great efforts from Alicia and Kate to help our girls secure a spot this Saturday. Proud but never satisfied!!

Pioneer League #2 (10/13/2021). Eagles got after it again at Columbia Park, with some impressive results. Guys side: School course record alert…Luca Romero! Guys fastest varsity group in school history at Columbia Park! 5 guys in the top 10 for fastest times in school history at Columbia Park! Freshman boys get 3 sub 20, 2 sub 19!!! Girls get 2 in the top 6 all time at Columbia with 2 huge PRs by Iliana and Katy! Sunny and Alicia with big PRs running varsity too! JV girls have more PRs than I have fingers 👏👏👏. Great work Eagles….keep soaring.
