What makes this tutoring service different?

This tutoring center not only helps children in all subjects, but it's also geared toward different learning types.

As a mom of children with dyslexia, I personally know how important it is to find a certified dyslexic tutor.

Certified dyslexic tutors understand the dyslexic brain. They are able to teach the student how they learn, how to read, and how to spell. Dyslexia can affect math, handwriting and so much more. It is a language based struggle which these tutors understand.

I am a certified dyslexic tutor in the Orton Gillingham approach, and if you have a student struggling to read because of dyslexia, I would love to help. Also, parents, it would be such a privilege to meet with and encourage you. I can offer information, curriculums and and even IEP accommodations.

It's a common misconception that dyslexia is reversing letters, but it's so much more.

When people hear "dyslexia," they often think only about reading.

But dyslexia can also affect:
• Spelling
• Writing
• Word retrieval
• Note-taking
• Following multi-step directions
• Learning a new language
• Self-confidence
and more.

Understanding the whole learner helps us provide better support.

Reading curriculums that actually work for kids with dyslexia:

There are a lot of curriculums out there and for parents with children who struggle with dyslexia, it's hard to know which ones work, so I decided to share some curriculums that have worked for me and my family.

When looking for a reading curriculum for students with dyslexia, it's very important to choose a curriculum that is Orton Gillingham based. Thankfully, if you're with a charter school, the school will typically pay for them.

Both of these reading curriculums are parent friendly and fun for kids. They are very open and go.

Reviewing previous concepts, teaching the floss rule and playing Go Fish to make it stick.

When teaching children with dyslexia how to read, it is important to teach one concept at a time with review of former concepts. They need to see the rule, build words using the rule, review former rules, and then be able to show you that they understand the rule on their own. The process works and it's beautiful.

Mrs. Brown had one student attend a class through HHRC last year. One morning, Mrs. Brown asked if she could instruct a class...and here it is. She is not just instructing one class, but two!

📚CHILDREN WITH SYSLEXIA SHOULDN'T HAVE TO READ OUT LOUD IN CLASS.

One of the most intimidating experiences for a child with dyslexia is reading out loud in class.

Many people with dyslexia describe reading out loud as "terrifying." Being called on unexpectedly can increase anxiety, affect their confidence, and makes them more vulnerable to teasing and embarrassment.

The only time a child with dyslexia should read aloud is when he or she is in a one-on-one tutoring session, practicing at home, or if they volunteer.

This one small change can make a world of difference to a child struggling to read.
