Ben is our Peer Recovery Support Specialist at WVSU!
🌟 Story of Hope: Ben Shreve 🌟
Ben Shreve faced real barriers in early recovery — transportation, education, and reentry after being justice-impacted. But with the right support and determination, his story became one of purpose and leadership.
Through Jobs & Hope WV, Ben received critical resources like the Modivcare rideshare program and public transit passes, allowing him to re-enroll in college at West Virginia State University while living in a long-term treatment center.
Jobs & Hope WV also supported Ben’s path to becoming a state-certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) and helped him build stability through the gas reimbursement program as he transitioned from sober living to independent living.
Today, Ben is the Peer Recovery Support Specialist at West Virginia State University through the West Virginia Collegiate Recovery Network — an organization whose mission is strengthened by staff members who are former Jobs & Hope WV participants themselves.
This is the full circle of recovery and reentry:
✨ Support → Stability
✨ Opportunity → Education
✨ Recovery → Leadership
✨ Participants → Professionals serving others
“Jobs & Hope WV made it possible for me to get back into school early on. I cannot thank them enough for the resources provided throughout my recovery journey.” — Ben Shreve
💙 This is what hope in action looks like.
