Did you know that today there are two days to celebrate???
This year Memorial Day also fell on May 25th!!!
Memorial Day and Shove Off Day!!!
Memorial Day created by Black Americans who gave black soldiers a proper burial who were left in a mass confederate grave. This celebration was first known as Decoration Day. It’s now known as Memorial Day.
Shove Off Day was on May 25th 1865. When the USCT “shoved off” and left for their journey to Galveston, TX to begin enforcing freedom from slavery. They would arrive in Galveston on Juneteenth or June 19th 1865.
Thank you to the United States Colored Troops for their sacrifices for our freedom.
Happy Shove Off Day and Happy Memorial Day from Indy Juneteenth.
