(3rd and final "Career Day" post)
During our "School Family Meeting" this morning, all of South Creek Elementary School's kindergarten students were in the "Kindergarten Career Day Parade!" During the week, in their kindergarten classrooms, the teachers thought about careers!

(1st Career Day post)
Mrs. Santos, our amazing Guidance Counselor, put together an amazing Career Day at South South Creek Elementary School! There were also about 20 teachers on the Career Day planning committee that helped to create this experience! Thank you to our amazing parents and community members for teaching our students about the many different career opportunities there are!

Mrs. Sarah Geimer-Eads, South Creek Elementary School's amazing PE teacher, organized our Mini-Marathon again this year!! I was not able to get outside for Kindergarten runners, but I tried to take photos of as many of our students as I could! The kids had a blast! Each class had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for both girls and boys!!!

These past two weeks, my Kindergarten , 1st grader, and my 3rd grade students have worked together, using "Reading Rods" to create words! They combined beginning sounds and beginning blends with "word families!"
Students had to work together to decide if the combination of each beginning sound/blend and a word family created an actual word. This was easy for some words, but other words we weren't so sure about...even me!
With the easier words, we decided as a class whether or not each combination created a real word.
Then using the gradual release teaching philosophy, "I do. We do. You do." The students helped me create a sentence using two words that went together. Next, the students worked with a partner to create sentences, and finally, each student tried it by themselves, with individual support from me as needed.
Our 1st and third grade students worked together and used www.dictionary.com to look up any words they weren't sure about. Then recorded which words were actual words and explained what each new word meant using a definition, examples, synonyms, and non-examples (also known as antonyms) in a shared Google doc! This Google Doc is at the top of my Google Classroom for each 1st and 3rd grader, so your child can show you what they have done so far or explain and show you what they learned!
Most importantly, the students learned how to work together with a partner! This integral life-skill requires guidance, patience, and practice to master this necessary way of learning and working. I am very proud of the teamwork, discussions, and conversations I heard while making my rounds!

I love it when I get to spend a few minutes before the end of kindergarten recess! Our beautiful, energetic, and loving kindergarten students make me feel loved and blessed when they run up to me and say, "Hi, Mrs. Alger!" and give me a huge love-filled hug! I love all of my students!
