When it comes to preschool readiness, many parents worry about their child's ability to sit still or separate without crying. But true readiness looks much different.

We look for foundational shifts in how a child interacts with their world. Your child may be ready to begin their educational journey if they:

Show an active interest in engaging with or observing other children.

Can communicate their basic needs through words or gestures.

Are beginning to explore small moments of independence.

Have experience with a simple daily routine or schedule.

One of our favorite things about Ivybrook is watching children learn through real experiences.

When you walk into our classrooms, you will often find children observing bugs, caring for classroom pets, exploring nature, asking questions, and making discoveries every day. None of it is accidental. We intentionally create an environment that invites curiosity because we know children learn best by doing.

One of our favorite things about process art is that there isn't a "right" way to create.

Instead of following directions to make every project look the same, at Ivybrook we give children the freedom to explore materials and create something that is uniquely their own. Along the way, they are building creativity, problem-solving skills, and fine motor development, all while simply enjoying the process.

Sometimes the learning isn't in the final artwork... it's in everything that happened while creating it. And that's exactly why we value process art as a foundational approach in our school.

When you peek into our youngest classrooms at Ivybrook Academy, you will see toddlers actively engaged in the profound work of sensory and physical discovery. Daily activities include:

‣ Building Fine Motor Control: Carefully pouring water between containers.

‣ Fostering Independence: Learning the necessary steps to put on their own shoes.

‣ Exploring Cause and Effect: Discovering how different materials and tools create different marks.
