On June 4, 2026 — just two months ago — the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Hillsboro Police Department conducted a joint child predator sting in this county. Investigators posed as underage minors on dating applications, social media platforms, and other online services. Five people were arrested for luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child, and law enforcement stated they believe more victims of these individuals may exist. Washington County also operates a dedicated Human Trafficking Task Force, certified in 2018, working alongside local law enforcement to combat exploitation in this area. A 16-year-old in mental health crisis, phone off, no confirmed direction, in a county where predators were actively targeting minors just weeks ago through the same online platforms teenagers use every day — every one of those factors stacks.
