In his recent article for , neurologist Dr. Mill Etienne uses the journey of Governor Gavin Newsom to highlight a critical truth: Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence.

Dr. Etienne notes that many of his patients arrive with labels like "lazy" or "unmotivated," when in reality, they simply have a structural brain difference. When we miss these diagnoses, we don't just miss a label—we miss an opportunity to provide the tools that allow a person to reach their full potential.

April is Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month! ♾️ This year, the focus moves beyond just "awareness." Awareness is knowing someone is autistic; acceptance is making sure they’re included, heard, and supported.

The 2026 theme is "Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value." It’s a reminder that neurodiversity isn't a problem to be solved—it’s a natural part of the human experience that makes our world more vibrant and innovative.

How can you take action this month?

Listen: Follow and amplify autistic creators and self-advocates.

Adapt: Make your spaces (work, school, or home) more sensory-friendly.

Ask: Instead of assuming what someone needs, just ask!
