🔥 Spring Valley CTE Firefighting students continue building the foundational skills every firefighter needs in the field!

Today, students worked on fire hose management and hydrant operations—two essential components of establishing an effective water supply and preparing for fireground operations.

Students practiced several fire hose rolls, developing the ability to properly roll, store, deploy, and manage hose lines. These basic maneuvers are critical for maintaining organized equipment and allowing firefighters to quickly place hose into service when needed.

They also worked through hydrant setup and water supply operations, practicing the proper procedures for preparing a fire hydrant, making connections, and establishing the water supply needed to support firefighting operations.

These may seem like basic skills, but on the fireground, fundamentals matter. Every connection, hose line, and piece of equipment must be handled efficiently and correctly.

Our students are building those skills one step at a time! 🚒🔥

🏥🏈 Hands-On Learning in Sports Medicine!

SVCTE & SVSM would like to thank Robert Chafin, LAT/ATC, for spending time with our Sports Medicine students and sharing his expertise!

Students received hands-on instruction in on-field emergency procedures, evaluation techniques, spinal board use, and emergency injury response. From learning proper techniques to actually putting those skills into practice, our students were able to experience what it takes to be ready when an athlete needs help.

These are the kinds of real-world experiences that take learning beyond the classroom and help prepare our students for careers in Sports Medicine.

🇺🇸 A new flag flying over Timberwolf Mountain! 🐺

Our JROTC cadets pictured here installed a brand-new American flag on Timberwolf Mountain before Friday night’s home opener for Timberwolves football.

And they had to hustle! With shortened class periods on Friday for the pep rally, the cadets made the trip from the CTE building, across the football field and up Timberwolf Mountain to properly install the new flag—and then make it back before the bell rang. Talk about making the most of the time you have!

The installation gave our cadets a chance to put into practice the proper customs and courtesies associated with the care and display of the nation’s colors. Seeing that new flag flying in the background of Friday night’s festivities was pretty special.

It also tied in perfectly with the student section’s America-themed, patriotic colors for the home opener. 🇺🇸🏈

The flag is currently flying at half-staff in honor of Dolly Parton, in accordance with Governor Patrick Morrisey’s order.

A pretty remarkable effort by our JROTC cadets—and a great way to kick off Timberwolves football season!

🏥⚕️ Learning the Tools of the Trade! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Our Year 1 Sports Medicine students are getting hands-on with the clinical modalities available in SVSM — Spring Valley Sports Medicine! 😎

Today’s students are beginning to familiarize themselves with the equipment and therapeutic techniques they’ll be using throughout the year as they build their foundational knowledge of injury prevention, rehabilitation, recovery, and patient care.

But this is just the beginning. 👀

As the year progresses, students will dive deeper into the physiological effects and clinical applications of various modalities, exploring how factors such as thermal energy, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, compression, and other therapeutic interventions can influence pain management, circulation, tissue extensibility, inflammation, muscle function, and the body’s natural healing processes.

They’ll learn not just WHAT a modality does, but WHY, WHEN, and HOW it should be utilized appropriately in a clinical setting.

This is what Career Technical Education is all about — taking concepts from the classroom and putting them into practice with equipment and procedures that mirror the real-world healthcare environment. 💪🩺

Two years ago, SV Class of '24 graduate Jason Townson was one of Spring Valley’s first Career Launch students working with Solar Holler. He also completed our Welding program.

Today, he’s back on campus helping lead the installation of hundreds of solar panels—and already serving as a crew lead.

We are incredibly proud of Jason and grateful for partners like Solar Holler that provide students with opportunities to turn classroom learning into meaningful careers.

It was great to see Jason reconnect with Timberwolf Career Launch Advisor Coach Pratt and reflect on how far he has come in such a short time.
