🇺🇸 Welcome Home, Cadets! 🇺🇸

Twelve Spring Valley JROTC cadets recently returned from a week at Camp Dawson, where they participated in an intensive leadership development experience alongside cadets from across West Virginia.

Throughout the week, cadets faced physical and mental challenges designed to strengthen teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills. These experiences pushed students beyond their comfort zones, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a deeper understanding of what it means to lead and serve others.

Programs like JROTC play an important role in our Career and Technical Education mission by helping students develop the professional and leadership skills needed for success in enrollment, employment, and enlistment.

We are proud of these cadets for representing Spring Valley with character, discipline, and Timberwolf pride.

Two years ago, SV Class of '24 graduate Jason Townson was one of Spring Valley’s first Career Launch students working with Solar Holler. He also completed our Welding program.

Today, he’s back on campus helping lead the installation of hundreds of solar panels—and already serving as a crew lead.

We are incredibly proud of Jason and grateful for partners like Solar Holler that provide students with opportunities to turn classroom learning into meaningful careers.

It was great to see Jason reconnect with Timberwolf Career Launch Advisor Coach Pratt and reflect on how far he has come in such a short time.

Also part of the installation team at the CTE is recent graduate Ethan Sprouse, who wasn’t present for the photo because he was already hard at work installing panels at the new fire station in Westmoreland.

And a quick update on the scope of this incredible work with Solar Holler:

• 469 panels scheduled for installation on the main csmpus building next week
• Additional panels planned for the hillside (numbers still being finalized)
• 152 panels currently being installed at the CTE building
• 168 panels installed last week on the facility building

Tavian Walls passed his WVDE SMAW Certification test.

Congratulations to our very own Aviation Tech instructor for passing this on his first try!

🎉✈️ A huge congratulations to one of our very own, Mr. Joe Jervis, on passing his Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) checkride on the FIRST TRY!

The CFI is widely regarded as one of the most challenging checkrides in aviation, with a significantly lower first-time pass rate than most pilot certificates. Earning it on the first attempt is a testament to Joe’s knowledge, professionalism, and dedication to excellence.

Joe is an incredibly important part of the APP Flight team, and his hard work plays a major role in the success of our students and our program. We are proud to have him on our staff and excited to see the impact he’ll continue to make as a flight instructor.

Very proud of our Sports Medicine students as they wrapped up their End of Year Skills Checks!

Our Year 1 and Year 2 students demonstrated the knowledge and hands-on abilities they have worked hard to build throughout the school year. From anatomy identification and injury evaluation techniques to taping skills, splinting, rehabilitation exercises, and therapeutic modality usage, students showcased the real-world skills that are essential in the field of Sports Medicine.

These skill checks are designed to simulate the expectations students may encounter in athletic training, healthcare, and rehabilitation careers. It was impressive to see the confidence, professionalism, teamwork, and growth our students displayed throughout each station.

Experiences like these help prepare students for future certifications, college programs, and careers in healthcare while reinforcing the importance of communication, critical thinking, and patient care.

Great job to all of our Sports Medicine students and instructors on another outstanding year of learning and hands-on training!

🚒🔥 Spring Valley Firefighting students are preparing for next week’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) training at Tri-State Airport with advanced hose advancement and aircraft fire suppression drills under the watch of program instructor Chief Caudill.

Today’s training focused on coordinated attack line operations as students practiced advancing on a simulated jet fuel fire scenario. While no live fire was used during today’s exercise, students trained in full gear while working through the precise teamwork and communication required during ARFF incidents. Crews practiced nozzle operation, maintaining hose line integrity, coordinated side-step advancement, and synchronized movements while approaching the simulated fire area.

These students are already certified Firefighter I and II personnel, and this ARFF experience gives them another level of real-world, industry-based emergency response training. Next Friday, they will work alongside airport firefighters, local fire departments, and volunteer firefighters during hands-on ARFF exercises at Tri-State Airport.

Chief Caudill is putting students through the paces now to prepare them for the intensity, coordination, and discipline required during aircraft emergency response operations.
