A new greenspace/playground is going into downtown Huntington for a 501c3 and I'm soooooo excited for it!! - however, some big hurdles need overcome and fast to make it a reality for the 20-25 children who will use it daily this summer. Biggest first challenge? Fencing. The donated lot is 100ftx60ft rectangle. We need a minimum 3.5ft (prefer taller) beautiful and long lasting metal fencing and gate solution. Anyone got a lead on a wholesale option or donation I can help lasso into the plan? The org just received their beautiful commercial playground equipment $$$ surprise today - now comes the exciting part of building a safe space all around it! Who's ready to build something beautiful once again for the children?

In other news: we passed our regulatory inspection today, so Forest Adventure Co-Op is primed for another 2 years of community partnerships helping children from 5-13yrs of age explore the wonders of STEM in the WV woods! ❤️🌳🌲❤️ When doors keep opening, we walk through them to find purpose! ❤️🌲🌳❤️

Monday October 9th from 9am-1230pm your child can join us for a fall Forest Adventure, great for kids aged 5-13yrs! We'll hike to The Overlook and spy the beginning of the autumn colors on the mountains, we'll meander through the Wandering Wood trails and have a healthy snack, and overall enjoy a nature filled outdoor experience full of learning about the plants and creatures we discover! Curious about the income potential of forest farming? You're in luck! ASD and the USDA National Agroforestry Center are piloting a new Forest Farming Calculator to help you estimate a break even price for various forest botanicals. But we need your input to finalize the tool!

This is Tia Fix Rumbaugh, Director of Forest Adventure Co-Op, with an update: this Wednesday 8/30 we will host our 1st session back from 9-1230 (for children aged 5-13yrs), and the following Wednesday Sept 6th, will be our final Forest Adventure for the foreseeable future, as we suspend operations until enrollment increases and we strategize on new sustainable methods of operation and programming for the acreage.

There will be no fees for either session for co-op members, and all are welcome to share the news with those who might be interested in joining.

Miss Samantha, Ms. Anna, my father Jim Rumbaugh, and myself will be leading these last sessions of nature based STEM projects and woods exploration. It has been an honor to work with all the families and their children over the last few years, and I hope that we can come together to enjoy the woods in some capacity in the days ahead. ❤️
