Texas High School Principals: Did You Know?

Under Texas Election Code §13.046, each public or private high school principal in Texas, or the principal’s designee, serves as a High School Deputy Registrar.

This designation is automatic by law and does not require the principal to complete the training required of a traditional Volunteer Deputy Registrar (VDR).

A high school principal may also designate an administrative staff member or teacher, in writing, to serve as the High School Deputy Registrar and carry out voter-registration responsibilities on behalf of the campus.

High School Deputy Registrars play an important role in ensuring eligible students and school employees have access to voter-registration opportunities.
