This week's GiGi’s Farm Educator of the Week is Ms. Broadnax, Biology Teacher at the Onslow County Learning Center!

Ms. Broadnax was nominated by OCLC Director Shannon for her unwavering commitment to student success and her ability to make science meaningful, engaging, and accessible for all learners. Through hands-on experiences, encouragement, and a passion for biology, she inspires students to be curious, confident, and resilient.

Whether she's helping students understand complex scientific concepts, celebrating their growth, or providing support beyond the classroom, Ms. Broadnax consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Congratulations to Mackenzie, Alexandria and Carolanne for participating in the NC State Chicken Project Livestock Show! With over 200+ students from counties across North Carolina, his event challenges both animals and handlers physically and mentally. Great job!!

Late post but still awesome! A handful of our OCLC students went on the Close-Up Field Trip before spring break and got a chance to see the other side of the community. They participated in a mock Commissioner meeting and got to explore the different departments within the Sheriff's department. The kids were great and learned about what it takes to be an active community member.

March brought many things but most importantly we were able to recognize our high school math teacher, Shane Miller, as our Educator of the Month. Mr. Miller is not only a phenomenal teacher, but a caring support to our students on a personal level. Students have said "He talks to me like a person, like I am not just some kid." With each connection he makes, Mr. Miller is able to teach fundamentals of math that students may not have understood before. We are proud to have him on campus and that we are able to recognize him!

Students at OCLC work towards a reward each month. The points from their daily point sheet and their attendance are calculated for the month and if they maintain 465 points per week and 3 or less absences for the month, then students are able to attend the reward for the month.

In February, our students worked towards being able to decorate and eat cupcakes. While that was fun in itself, they were also awarded the opportunity to take all our extra un-iced cupcakes to the kindergarteners at Sandridge Elementary and helped them create yummy master pieces!

Everyone involved had a great time and the smiles were infectious. Our students were kind, helpful, and took initiative when helping students and cleaning up. We are proud of how well they have handled themselves and we can't wait for the next opportunity to work with the littles in our community!

Mr. White is doing it again! Please take a moment to read what the county has to say in their recent Teacher Feature! Great job Mr. White!

TEACHER FEATURE
OCLC Teacher Devin White said, "Teaching is more than just delivering content. It's about building relationships and building that person as a whole."
Mr. White said that he struggled as a teenager and become a teacher so he could be the adult that he needed when he was younger.

On December 4, Mrs. Shareef took a handful of students to the Onslow Community Outreach to help get carts ready for food distribution and then served during the soup kitchen lunch. During lunch, students traded off serving, to cleaning, to talking with community members It was an amazing experience for all students that went and we can't wait to go back next semester!
