FLASH "Erase" of dark ends which "grabbed" toner on lightened hair.

Apply this formula to DAMP (not wet!) Hair lengths. Do this AT THE SINK. Massage area with your fingers for 4 - 7 minutes, then rinse like crazy, shampoo and condition.

Mix 1 ounce of creme lightener with 2 ounces of 5 volume developer. You are creating an alkaline yet very mild base breaker. Liberally apply to those deeper ends and massage with your finger tips. Do NOT leave the client. You will see that depth "lift". Then, rinse like crazy, shampoo rinse again and CONDITION! All will be well.

PS: If you have Igora Liquid Base Beaker... Use that instead. I'm sorry that so many brands have discontinued their base breakers. I love the Wella creme base breaker.. but it also has a toning effect .. not necessary for creating the correction I've. posted here. I hope you will remember this little salon tip. For your dark blonde client (male or female),

When their gray percentage is approaching.. or more than 30 percent gray; AND when they expect gray coverage, along with a completely natural looking result: Here's what I do.. Smiles all around:

Wella Color Touch:
1 ounce of 6/0 plus 1 ounce of 7/1 plus 2 ounces of Emulsion 4%
(yes, this is the exact formula!)

Apply the formula and cover the hair with plastic. Place the client under a pre-heated source for 20 minutes. Then, remove the cap and continue processing the hair at room temperature for 20 more minutes. Rinse, shampoo and condition. The gray will be gone, and that dark blonde hair will look even better than natural. No surprises.. just the result the client expects!

PS: For those who are a bit more fashion-forward, this is a great base where you can place highlights!

HERE'S a FORMULA that creates a very pretty brunette shade on hair that's naturally level 2 (dark brown).

Your client wants to be just a BIT lighter, with a hint of cinnamon brown .. very natural looking and able to cover any gray she might have. No heat required here:

MIX equal parts of a permanent hair color formula:
1 ounce of 5NN plus 1 ounce of 4BG.. intermixed with 20 volume developer. Use the brand of your choice. Here, use Color Fusion by Redken.

Apply and process for 30 - 45 minutes. As you see, this formula contains no red tone. The balanced warmth and lifting action of the formula will expose a BIT of the natural warm (reddish) undertones in the hair.

PS: For a client who is just getting started with color and who may be a bit scared... you can mix this formula and apply it.. painted into selected strands or wrapped in foil or mesh. The very soft lift and shift in tone will look great and assures you of not creating "too much" of a change...... Enjoy. B
