Today, on Yom HaShoah, RMBA came together in solemn remembrance of the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. May their memories be a blessing, and may we continue to honor the resilience of survivors whose courage and strength continue to inspire us each day.

This morning’s Upper School program opened with High School Names Not Numbers students lighting six memorial candles, each dedicated to a victim of the Holocaust. This act of remembrance also honored Holocaust survivors in Houston who were interviewed as part of this year’s documentary project, creating a powerful bridge between testimony and memory. In recognition of our responsibility to preserve survivor stories for future generations, especially as so few first-generation survivors remain, we were honored to host a presentation by Lisa Strauss, who shared her grandfather Martin Donald’s story of survival, from coming of age in Berlin during the rise of Adolf Hi**er to serving in the British forces and helping bring N***s to justice after World War II.

Earlier in the day, Lower School students gathered for a Yom HaShoah Tekes, sharing reflections and singing Ani Ma’amin in a meaningful moment of remembrance. Alumna Hili Kister (‘24), currently serving in Houston as part of her Sherut Leumi, read The Happiest Boy on Earth to students in grades K–3, bringing age-appropriate reflection to our youngest learners.

Across campus, Holocaust research and artwork filled the hallways as Hebrew classes in grades 6–10 explored themes including the Righteous Among the Nations, survivor testimonies, acts of heroism, and life in camps and ghettos, with students also incorporating personal family histories. Upper School students also created original butterfly artwork inspired by I Never Saw Another Butterfly, curated and installed in the front lobby as a fully student-led project inspired by Holocaust Museum Houston’s “Taking Flight” initiative.

Through learning, reflection, and storytelling, our students help ensure that the memory and legacy of the Holocaust continues to live on.

We hope you’ll join us on May 13 for the powerful Names, Not Numbers premiere at Holocaust Museum Houston.

Tonight didn’t end the way we wanted but no one can question the heart this team showed. Our boys left everything on the floor in the state semifinals, playing with grit, resilience, and pride from the opening tip to the final buzzer. This season has been built on work, sacrifice, and brotherhood, and that showed in every possession, every stop, and every fight back.
To our players and coaches: thank you for representing RMBA with class, middot, and toughness.
To our fans near and far: thank you for showing up, cheering loud, and carrying this team all season long.
We’re proud. We’re grateful. And we’re not done building. ⭐️🏀💙

Why travel the world when you can experience it right here in the halls of RMBA? ✈️🌍

Mi Shenichnas Adar Marbim B’Simcha—as we enter the joyful month of Adar, we’re literally increasing in simcha (happiness), one hallway at a time.

In honor of Rosh Chodesh Adar, our incredible Bnot Sherut transformed the halls into a vibrant global adventure. After passing through security, students boarded their “El Al” flight and set off on a journey around the world, with each hallway becoming its own destination.

They strolled beneath cherry blossom trees in Japan, relaxed on the beach in Thailand, went on safari across Africa, and stood before the pyramids in Egypt. In England, they spotted Big Ben, and in Paris, they enjoyed beautiful art and a charming café experience.

And the best part? No passport required. 🌎✨

Professional development day at Beren, and our educators showed up ready to learn, reflect, and grow 🌟

We kicked off the morning with a delicious breakfast by Houston Catering Concepts and an inspiring welcome from our Head of School, Rabbi Jordan Silvestri, then dove into sessions on preventing teacher burnout led by Rowan Bigham, Lower School General Studies Principal Rivka Gottlieb, and Lower School Judaic Studies Principal, and supporting neurodivergent learners led by Rachael Payne, Interim Director of Student Support, along with play-based education and strengthening classroom management led by Tavi Koslowe from Kadima.

Today was all about investing in our teachers so they can keep investing in our students!

Rising 6th graders got a full taste of Middle School life this morning! ✨ They met some of their future teachers, explored the robotics elective with floor and robots, worked as a team to make guacamole and enjoyed a Beren Bagel showcase where they interviewed each other. Current MS students also shared their favorite sports, why they love them, and how being active helps them both on and off the field. We can’t wait to see these students continue to grow and thrive next year! 🥑🤖🏀📚
