What an incredible day at the PISD year-end chess tournament! โ™Ÿ๏ธ Thank you to everyone who came to watch, support, and cheer our students โ€” coaches, families, special guests, and staff. Over the year we watched 792 students from 32 campuses (led by 76 dedicated coaches!) grow into confident critical thinkers. The day was full of quiet concentration, big smiles, laughter, relieved coaches, and a few joyful tears. We saw true sportsmanship, wonderful camaraderie, exuberant first-time winners, and gracious runner-ups.

Special thanks to the Thompson Intermediate family (Tanis Griffin, Coach Paul, Coach Montes), our guests Jeremy Richardson, Staci Barber, Traci Powell, Katherine Rearick, Travis Teichelman, Isaac Romero, and everyone who helped run the event โ€” and to the staff who mastered the new software system.

Enjoy the photos when you can โ€” which moment made you smile the most? ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ“ธ Pasadena Independent School District

Celebrating an Incredible Achievement!

The 2026 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, hosted by Houston City College (HCC), brought together spellers from 22 counties and more than 1,100 schools. Students advanced through multiple levelsโ€”classroom bees, school bees, district/county/area bees, and finally the Regional Bee at HCCโ€”making this an extraordinary accomplishment.

We are incredibly proud to announce that Pasadena ISD has a National Qualifier! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐ŸŒŸ Haven from Melillo Middle School has earned a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will be held in the Washington, D.C. area this May.

The top three spellers from the regional competition advance to the national stage โ€” a truly onceโ€‘inโ€‘aโ€‘lifetime opportunity!

๐Ÿ‘ Way to go, Haven! Pasadena ISD is so proud of you!
