Can your child square 65 without long multiplication?

Take the number before the final 5: 6

Multiply it by the next number: 6 × 7 = 42

Finish with 25: 65² = 4,225

This shortcut works for any whole number ending in 5. Try it with 85²!

Why do atoms bond in the first place?

In simple terms, atoms form chemical bonds because interactions involving their valence electrons can lead to more stable arrangements.

Three important types of bonding students should recognize are:

• Ionic bonding → electrons are transferred between atoms

• Covalent bonding → electrons are shared between atoms

• Metallic bonding → valence electrons are delocalized among many metal atoms

Example:

Na + Cl → Na⁺ + Cl⁻

Sodium transfers one electron to chlorine. The oppositely charged ions attract, forming an ionic bond in sodium chloride.

A helpful beginner question to ask:

Are the electrons being transferred, shared, or delocalized?

That question can make identifying bond types much easier.

**Understanding Scatter Plots for the Digital SAT 📊**

Scatter plots are an important skill for Digital SAT students to master. They help you see relationships between two sets of data, identify trends, and interpret patterns quickly.

When studying scatter plots, students should focus on:
- recognizing positive, negative, or no correlation
- spotting clusters and outliers
- understanding what the data suggests
- interpreting graphs accurately under time pressure

Building confidence with scatter plots can help improve problem-solving speed and accuracy on test day.

One of the most common fraction mistakes is surprisingly simple:

½ + ⅓ is NOT ⅖.

The pieces aren't the same size yet.

First find a common denominator:

½ = 3/6
⅓ = 2/6

Now add:

3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6

A good reminder for students:

Make the pieces the same size before you add them.

This Grade 5 study sheet walks through the process step by step.
