चित्रा सिंह & जगजीत सिंह यांची ‘कोठे ते आ माहिया’ ही पंजाबी गझल पारंपरिक गझलांच्या रूढ चौकटींपलीकडे जाणारी गझल आहे. जरी ती पंजाबीत असली तरीही ती ऐकताना मला काय कुणालाही ज्याला प्रेम समजतं त्याला भाषेची अडचण येत नाही. बहुतांश गझला प्रेमातील वेदना, विरह, आणि भावनात्मक ताण यावर आधारलेल्या असतात. पण ही गझल त्या साच्याला छेद देते आणि ती प्रेमाचं हसणारं, बोलणारं असं एक जिवंत रूप दाखवते.1979 मध्ये गेलेली ही गझल आपल्या मनाला अजूनही वेड लावते!
चित्रा सिंग आणि जगजीत सिंग यांच्या स्वरांतून प्रेमाचे दोन सूर उमटतात ; एक स्त्रीचा खट्याळ लाघव आणि दुसरा पुरुषाचा हसरा आत्मीयपणा. हे दोन्ही सूर एकमेकांवर झगडत नाहीत; उलट ते एकमेकांत मिसळतात. त्यामुळे ही गझल फक्त शब्दांनी नव्हे, तर संवादाच्या चालीने बनलेली वाटते.
