The data tells a clear story: when you start Algebra 1 matters.

Houston students who take Algebra 1 in eighth grade—instead of ninth—are on a much stronger path to earning a living wage 6 years after graduation.

Early math unlocks real opportunity. It gives our students a head start on long-term success and financial stability.

Seeing our mission on the front page of the Houston Chronicle is a moment worth celebrating.

This feature is about much more than one organization. It shines a bright light on the daily, dedicated work happening across our city to ensure every child has access to a strong public education. As our CEO, Courtney Isaak Pichon, shared, this is a community-wide effort.

We are incredibly grateful for the parents, educators, and local leaders who champion this cause right alongside us. When student success becomes front-page news, the whole community wins.

Celebrate this milestone with us in the comments, and follow along as we continue the real work ahead.

Community partnership is at the heart of our work — and today, we are honored to celebrate alongside organizations making a real impact across our city.

We recently joined the Astros Foundation and fellow grantees to connect, share our missions, and reflect on the vital work happening throughout Houston. During the event, Good Reason Houston was completely surprised and deeply grateful to be named the Share 2 Care organization, receiving half the proceeds. The total jackpot was $16,000!

This generous support directly fuels our ongoing commitment to improving public education and ensuring every child has access to a high-quality learning environment. We are equally inspired by the other incredible nonprofits in the room who are driving meaningful change alongside us.

Thank you to the Astros Foundation for bringing us all together, fostering this sense of community, and showing such strong investment in Houston's future.

Diplomas are common, but real opportunity is not.

Ensuring every student has a clear pathway to a living wage requires strategic, data-driven changes. Here are five essential shifts that can make a lasting impact on our students' futures:
Redesign advising to provide early, consistent career guidance.
Automatically enroll qualified students into advanced coursework.
Align career pathways with local, high-paying job markets.
Tie school budgets directly to student readiness outcomes.
Reinvest funds into programs that are proven to work.
When we align our educational resources with actual student outcomes, we build a stronger workforce and a thriving community for everyone.

We joined families at the Houston Children's Museum for Day of Wonder and left reminded of why this work matters.

We talked with parents about Pre-K because research shows kids who attend are more likely to arrive at kindergarten ready to thrive. Every Houston family deserves access to that information.

Here's what every Houston parent should know:
Public Pre-K in Houston is free and high-quality.
There are programs available for both 3- and 4-year-olds.
Pre-K helps build early literacy, social skills, and lays the foundation for lifelong learning.
And the impact lasts—starting early sets up stronger outcomes in school and beyond.

Only 1 in 5 Houston graduates earn a living wage six years after high school. 📉

In Houston, a living wage—currently about $45,000 a year—is the bare minimum needed to cover basics like food and housing. That means 80% of our young adults are working hard but still struggling to make ends meet.

It does not have to be this way. The secret to beating these odds is focusing on "credentials of value." High-quality degrees and top-tier certifications lead directly to strong, stable earnings and give our students real choices for their future.

Do not let your student fall behind. The education and career landscape shifts fast, and missing critical data could cost them their path to financial stability.

Let's build a stronger, more stable future for our students, together. 💡

Earning an industry credential in high school can boost a student's future income by up to 20%.

We recently unpacked this powerful data during the Citywide Coalition on Education College, Career, and Military Readiness meeting. The numbers show a clear reality. Simply graduating high school does not guarantee a living wage of $43,000. Within six years of graduation, the young adults actually reaching that financial milestone hold either a professional certification or a bachelor's degree.

What students earn matters just as much as getting a diploma. We need to focus on giving students access to credentials that hold real value in the labor market. Want to dive deeper into the research and insights?

Preparing for the future starts long before high school graduation. 🚀

Students need access to career exploration as early as elementary school. By the time they reach high school, individualized advising helps them pick the right courses and prepare for major milestones like the ACT.

During the Citywide Coalition on Education College, Career, and Military Readiness meeting, we discussed exactly why strong advising policies matter. Effective policies ensure counselors have the time and capacity to give every student the specific support they need to make informed decisions about their future.
