DiAnn Mills is a bestselling author who believes her readers should expect an adventure. Her titles Looking back, maybe they weren’t so bad after all.

I always dreamed of becoming a writer—but for years, I didn’t have the courage to take that first step. I wrote poetry, stories, and even books… then tossed them in the trash. Oh, I remember those days!

We had it good 🌞

Nobody knew where we were. Nobody needed to. Mom pointed at the door and that was the whole plan. No GPS, no check-ins, no "send me your location."

We built stuff. We broke stuff. We ate something questionable off the ground and survived just fine. The neighborhood was our kingdom and we ran it like we owned the place - because for those eight hours, we kind of did.

Here's the funny part. We came home dirty, scraped up, and half-starved. And that meant it was a good day. A great day, actually. Nobody was handing out participation trophies. You either caught the frog or you didn't.

Kids today are scheduled within an inch of their lives. Soccer at three, tutoring at five, screen time carefully managed. Bless their hearts. They're busy. But busy isn't the same as free.

Those long summer days made us who we are. Problem solvers. Good at boredom. Comfortable being a little lost. Turns out, unsupervised and untracked was the best education we ever got - and it was completely free.

The lights came on and we came running. Filthy. Happy. Alive.
