Infections: Staphylococcus lugdunensis can cause a range of infections, including skin and soft tissue infections (such as cellulitis, abscesses, and wound infections), bloodstream infections (bacteremia), and infections related to medical devices (such as catheters or prosthetic devices).

Clinical significance: Staphylococcus lugdunensis is considered a significant pathogen and is known for its ability to cause severe infections similar to those caused by Staphylococcus aureus. In fact, its virulence factors and ability to cause tissue damage are more similar to Staphylococcus aureus than other coagulase-negative staphylococci.
