I remember driving to work each day thinking I would always be that tired.
I remember getting home from work feeling exhausted, but still had a long list of tasks to complete at home.
How in the world was I supposed to be present in my daughter’s lives and enjoy time with them?
The answer was, I couldn’t.
I knew I didn’t want to continue down this same path, so I followed a few specific steps that you can implement right now in your life.
I am not suggesting that your list isn’t important, but you can keep up with your list, and enjoy your family (all while taking care of yourself!!).
So, let’s touch on those steps:
Step 1: Start by making a master list of everything you are doing.
Consider things like:
- Household chores (laundry, cooking, cleaning, picking up toys, etc)
- Errands
- Kid activities
- Meal planning
- Appointment scheduling
- Commuting to work
- Working out
I recommend working on this for a week. Keep your list with you throughout the week and update it each time you catch yourself doing something new.
Step 2: Identify items on your list that bring you joy and that are mandatory.
Clearly, as moms, we have a number of items that are non-negotiables. Now is the time to quickly identify those items and highlight them. In addition, put a star next to the items that bring your joy!!
Step 3: Identify unnecessary busy work.
And finally, identify the items that drain you and that are not needed at all. In some cases, it might be the way you are doing these things. Sometimes we need to be more efficient with the task and it can stay on the list, so be very honest with yourself during this step.
For me, this helped me improve my relationship with my spouse and children. This helped improve my relationship with God and love my career again. A huge cherry on top of this sundae – I also lost 35 pounds!
