At the tender young age of 4yrs old, Kaari Allen grew up doing all she could do to bring joy to her parents after her younger brother’s sudden passing. The positive reinforcement she received from gold stars on schoolwork snowballed into honing her skiing ability to become the #1 female skier in the country for her age with hopes of someday making an Olympic team. Pushing her body beyond capacity lead to the end of her athletic aspirations.
Later in life, a non-ergonomic work station in her classroom set off numerous, serious and permanent injuries to her dominant hand. This heartbreaking end of a 27-year career in special education as a learning specialist, brought Allen to her new reality and the ‘ah-ha’ moment that she can’t care for others until she focused on her own strengths to regain forward momentum in life. “Where The Hell Did I Park My Life an Owner’s Manual For Shifting Your Life Forward.” is a book that draws upon her personal and clinical expertise providing practical steps to foster momentum to live the best possible life.
Her spiral bound book is written as a guide with space for answering questions and completing pragmatic ‘shifts’ so the reader can identify and access their strengths, skills and reflect on the glorious opportunity of choice. This week we are traveling back to our interview with Jake!
Goat Dispatch was established in 2013 by Jake Langeslag & Amanda Langeslag as an alternative way to manage difficult vegetation. Their 10-acre property was so heavily infested with buckthorn that they could not even walk through sections of it. After using traditional methods for years, they were determined to find a better way. They wanted to help provide a more sustainable, eco-friendly approach as other land managers were reporting plants that were starting to get more resistant to certain herbicides. For them, traditional methods were very labor intensive and time consuming and they wanted their property to be a safe place for their growing children.
Amanda always wanted to own goats and Jake agreed to get goats with the understanding that they were “working” around the property. It did not take long for the couple to notice how well they were working and how happy the goats seemed to do a job so difficult for humans. Neighbors started asking if they could hire the goats for their yards and the next thing they knew they were full time goat wranglers working in parks, cities and private residences all over Minnesota & Western Wisconsin.
