The Spelman Innovation Lab launched its 2017 workshop series Sept. 20, offering students hands-on learning experience in art, computing, video game development and website building. Workshops were initially offered last spring semester. New this fall is the addition of two faculty members as instructors. Jerry Volcy, Ph.D. director, Spelman Innovation Lab, and Brown-Simmons Professor in the Department of Computing, will teach “Physical Computing 101.” Jaye Nias, Ph.D., a CURE postdoctoral fellow, will lead the “Dope Art Series.”

Experts from companies such as Cartoon Network Games, Softwear Automation and Street Cat Media will also serve as instructors. “It is vitally important for students to be exposed to the tools and technologies that we offer in the workshops,” said Jessica Anderson, assistant director of the Innovation Lab and instructor for the course “Making Art and Jewelry with the Laser Cutter.” Workshops run through mid-November.
