Encaustic medium allows blending of traditional oil methods and tools normally found in sculpture studios. And fire. Additionally, the translucent characteristics of the medium create a luminosity within the image.

Steel paintings begin as clean, dark 16 gauge carbon steel. From this point on, the steel is affected in all sorts of manners. Fire, chemicals, paint, and drawings are all applied and selectively removed to create a certain level of distress and clear imagery. This layering of images and weathering is similar to the scars that we all carry with us, be it emotional or physical.
