Swim started off with a challenge. π Anyone that has had lessons with me knows little ones cry on their 1st few lessons. I always explain this to my new parents. A lot of times I tell them the weak parent can't come until the little one stops crying.
So here is the story.... My first lesson of the session I have 4 yr, 2.5 yr, 2.5 yr, & 18 month old all the same skill level. I get in the water and start to get the little ones on the top step 4 yr & one of the 2.5 yr sat without crying. I was handed the 18 month and was holding her on my hip. She was crying as to be expected. The other 2.5 yr was put on the top step and started to cry totally normal too. He didn't want to stay on the step and was trying to get out. To keep the little ones safe and in the pool I will put them on my Bar Bells. Also this will help get them to calm down. Here is the shocker the father of the 2.5 yr that was crying got in the pool and pulled the child out of the water and said he is not doing lessons. Understand I know the father personally. He and I had a conversation a few months back. We discussed what to expect and crying was very normal. The father said I'm very stressed out about him crying and not liking it. I told him crying usually stops by the 4th lesson. Plus I said let him cry for the few lessons then you crying for a life time. Told him drowning is the 1 # cause of death to child from 1 to 14 yrs old. He even asked me "How long will you keep him underwater?" All I said he will be ok with me in the pool. Also told him he wasn't allowed to come the 1st few lesson since he was the weak parent. Obviously he didn't like me telling him that.
What really makes me frustrated is this father is worse than a helicopter parent. He is a LAWN MOWER parent. He is trying to protect the child his whole life which we all know can't happen EVER! The sad part is the child really needs to learn to swim. Almost every family member has a swimming pool in their back yard.
