At this time, we would like to formally announce the winners from the Third Annual PEERS Competition! On the weekend of May 8th, ten teams of high school students presented their innovative solutions to this year’s grand challenge question - If you had $5 million dollars, how would you improve wellness in the Houston community. The judges and project head were sincerely blown away by the creativity and intricate details that were put together by all teams. The selection process for top 3 was certainly difficult and not an easy decision! At the end of the weekend, we were able to award the three teams that are pictured in this post! Congratulations to you all🎉
We also want to recognize the teams’ respective mentors for their leadership and collaboration with the high school students. Thank you to all 6 of the depicted mentors for your effort and determination in PEERS this year!!
The winning teams will have their projects displayed on the PEERS website later this summer. We will be sure to update our social media whenever it has been posted so that everyone can take a look at them!

Hi, everyone! PEERS is a new community health initiative created by four UH students who are also certified community health workers. PEERS stands for Project Engagement Encouraging Rising Students, and is an interactive mentorship program for high schoolers in the Houston area that partners with UH undergraduates. Together, teams of 4 students and 2 UH mentors will work on projects focused on solving relevant community issues. In the spring, all the teams will compete against each other in solving these challenges, and prizes will be awarded! Throughout the program, high school students will have the opportunity to attend various workshops on career building, networking, and financial aid. We hope to promote community engagment through these student-led projects and address these issues through the communtity itself! Stay tuned for our project theme reveal and for when our applications open!
