2024 Kwoon Holiday Party is in the books. Had a great time with the students and their families. Ate great food and played fun games. The cookie decorating contest was my favorite. The winner pictured below!

Journey To a Wing Chun Family

Wing Chun has been a passion of mine since I walked into my first class in October, 1998, where I met my first Sifu, Sifu Ron Heimberger. Sifu Hemimberger was originally a student of Sifu Leung Ting, and then Sifu Ip Ching. I trained under him and my Si Hings (Older brothers) until 2002, when I decided to take a break and focus on my schooling full time. I finished school in 2008 and wanted to continue my training, however, Sifu Heimberger had passed away that year, and I was lost. That same year, I moved to Houston, Texas, and started looking for a school in the area. Over the following 8 years, I met a number of great martial artists from different styles and was lucky enough to meet many of the Wing Chun Sifus in the Houston area. Every Sifu I met in Houston was skilled, gracious, and passionate about the art. However, I never quite found the right fit for me. In 2016, I started a more dedicated search and started traveling to meet with Sifus from across the country. I once again met many fantastic Sifus, who were talented and passionate and had great schools. I appreciated them all for allowing me train with them and welcome me as a brother to their schools (I still have good a relationship with them all). After traveling and meeting so many good Sifus, I realized I had to make a decision about where to train. All of the Sifus were talented and passionate. It was a hard decision to make, there were no wrong answers, I just needed to find where I would fit best. I found my way to Sifu Bryan Talbot, through my brother-in-law, who was training with West Coast Wing Chun in Layton, Utah. Sifu Talbot is a personal student of Sifu Samuel Kwok and was also a disciple of Sifu Heimberger. In October, 2017, I attended a seminar with Sifu Kwok and Sifu Talbot and was immediately impressed by their depth of knowledge, passion for the art, and the family they had built. I subsequently went back and trained with Sifu Talbot another time before making my decision to join his family. I am so happy I have. My Wing Chun skills have progressed by leaps and bounds since I started training with him, and I am happy to be apart of a family that cares so deeply for each other, their communities, and the art. I look forward to many more years with Sifu Talbot and my Wing Chun family, and I hope for those who join us in Texas, that you will enjoy the same excitement and passion.
