A year later, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that you’re gone.

You weren’t just my big brother and Godfather to my daughter—you were my gist partner, and mischievous to a stand-up comedy fault.

Not a month would go by without you calling to say, “Where are you? Come by the office tomorrow so we can catch up.”

You’d always say, “But Gerry—” and I’d jump in to correct you, only for you to tease back, “Abeg, you’re like him o, jare.”

You were my confidante, someone I trusted completely.

You were rare—extremely rare. You didn’t smoke, didn’t drink, and you were steadfastly faithful to your lifelong partner and beautiful wife, Winifred.

As a teenager, I became a Black Belt in Shotokan because of you.

Still… I just can’t believe you’re gone. 💔
