Last week we had the opportunity to attend the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Alcalde Leadership Conference and Annual Seminar in Irving, TX. There was lots to celebrate for both current and alumni of The Houston Program. Many residents presented platform presentations at Alcalde on PGY1 major projects or Thesis projects. Alex Varkey opened the TSHP Annual Seminar by giving his keynote speech “Many Paths, One Profession” during which he shared about how we can use different journeys and perspectives to strive towards the same goal - safe and effective patient care. We had multiple THP family members lead platform presentations at Annual Seminar, including current Houston Methodist Hospital PGY2, Kalina Korzec and recent THP graduates, Atra Mouser and Jason Levy. We had great turnout at the Research and Education Foundation (R&E) Poster Competition, with current Houston Methodist Hospital PGY2, Alexis Hyman, being awarded honorable mention for her poster over a Clinical Metrics Dashboard she developed to better track pharmacist workload across the Houston Methodist system. We got to see Rodney Cox, BSPharm, MS (MHHS ’11) give his final address as TSHP Immediate Past-President. The awards ceremony celebrated many THP current and alum participants, with the following receiving awards:
Leo F. & Ann Godley Residency Fellowship Award: Michael Toraño, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, CPHQ (Current BSLMC PGY2)
Glenda Lawson McRee Pharmacy Student Award and Scholarship: McKenzie Erwin (Incoming MDA PGY1)
Pharmacy Mentor Award: Claire Latiolais, PharmD, MS (TCH ’17)
Adela Schneider Pharmacy Leadership Award: Phuoc Anne Nguyen, PharmD, MS, BCPS, FTSHP (Houston VA ’15)
Larry C. Nesmith Pharmacist Recognition: Stephanie Crowley, PharmD, MS, BCPS (HMH ’21)

Richard Cadle Mentoring Scholarship for Pharmacy Leadership: Michael T. England, PharmD, MBA (Current MDA PGY2)
Frederick W. Mullin Endowed Pharmacy Scholarship: Michael Toraño, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, CPHQ (Current BSLMC PGY2)

This post is long overdue but The Houston Program celebrated another successful and enriching Midyear in New Orleans last month. We had many celebrations of those current and past of our amazing program, and were able to celebrate together at The Houston Program reception, graciously hosted by Shield’s Health Solutions. We also were able to meet with potential candidates at our first ever coffee chat event, and further recruited at the residency showcase. Our PGY1 residents also had the opportunity to meet with Roger Anderson, a longtime supporter and dear friend of The Houston Program. We thank all those that continue to make our residency experience exciting and fulfilling to the greatest extent.
