'Twas the night before college, and all through the home, every heart was stirring, though no one felt alone. The bags sat by the door, all packed and prepared, each item a memory, a love that was shared.
The dreams lay nestled in each hopeful young mind, a future unknown, yet brave and aligned.
And parents, with pride and a tear in their eye,
Held back the goodbyes, though it was hard not to cry.
When out in the hall there arose such a sound, A shuffle of footsteps, a turning around.
The kitchen light flickered, a shadow appeared, a quiet reflection of all they held dear.
They remembered the years, each moment so fast, from first days of school to this one at last.
The laughter, the heartache, the lessons and care, all led to this day, and the love they all share.
Now dorm rooms, not bedrooms, would be where they 'd stay,
As parents held tight, then let them away.
With whispers of courage and dreams to pursue,
They knew it was time for wings to debut.
So here's to the students, to futures unknown,
And to families whose hearts will never be alone.
Though miles may divide, and goodbyes may bring tears,
The love stays beside them, through all of the years.
