Calvert Elementary students were so eager to learn and get their hands dirty outside by planting and harvesting. Unfortunately due to weather conditions we had to move the planting to indoors and learned how to plant seeds and be able to take them home to start their own gardens. Then they enjoyed a lettuce wrap of their own creation with many different fruits and veggies of their choosing And with the extra time they saved they also go to make their own parfait recipes with fruits of their choosing.

Today we celebrate Happy School Lunch Hero Day 2026 to the amazing individuals who show up every day with a smile, serve nutritious meals, and make sure every student feels cared for. You do so much more than prepare food—you create welcoming spaces, brighten days, and fuel young minds for success.

Thank you for your dedication, kindness, and hard work. Our schools are stronger because of you!

Tomorrow May 1st, we celebrate Happy School Lunch Hero Day!
Behind every healthy school meal is a dedicated team working hard to nourish our students’ minds and bodies. School lunch heroes do more than serve food—they create welcoming spaces, ensure nutrition standards are met, and support student success every single day.
Let’s take a moment to thank our Child Nutrition heroes for their commitment, care, and hard work.

Today we promoted Texas grown yellow squash to enrich the food pallet our students and diversify their taste buds to reach new and possibly unknown territory of a vegetable that is locally grown. None of this would be possible without the help of our wonderful and creative staff.
