Sending condolences to the Osteen Family. Mama Dodie will be missed.
Sidenote: Mrs. Osteen intrigued me. She was a small, petite lady (like me), but she had such a big presence. I loved her joyful and playful (almost mischievous) spirit! But she was also a strong and fierce prayer warrior not to be trifled with.
She and Pastor John Osteen raised 4 kids (Dr. Paul, Lisa, Joel and April... I think I got everyone!) whom all serve in ministry.
When I moved away from Houston, she was in her '80s and still went before the church encouraging everyone with strength and dignity. She was a 5 ft Force! ( I don't know what you heard, but to "fight like a girl" is no insult!).
In some circles, femininity is all about an affectation --like simply speaking softly and wearing dresses. But when you sit under the leadership of Texas women like Dodie Osteen, you quickly learn you're going to need some substance under that dress. You're going to need some grit along with grace because life comes for women, too!She wasn't one of those just sit there and look pretty, let'em admire your new hat and outfit first ladies. She exemplified how to lean on faith and persevere despite the odds.
We watched become a widow. And we watched her kick cancer's hind parts and defy the odds by living to her 90s. And after she won her cancer battle, she devoted her life to praying for and comforting the sick. She would host regular services just for those who needed hope and healing in their bodies.
What a life well-lived. Rest well Mama Dodie. I hope you're reunited with Pastor John Osteen now. π
