So unfortunately our season comes to an end without a run. Our goal at competition was to pass technical inspection, something we haven’t successfully done since 2012. We accomplished this and have plans in place to succeed next year. Many thanks to all the great people and mentors who tuned in to follow the team this year. Keep up with the exciting events that will be going on next year!

Shell Eco Marathon Day 2: we officially kicked off the Shell Eco Marathon with the large team photos and some speeches to welcome the teams. Crisis of the day was that we realized our 37 volt battery was unusable, setting off a wild search to find a new one. These batteries are very difficult to find (we can’t use generic batteries or car batteries). Fortunately our wonderful neighbors James B. Dudley High School loaned us one of their spares and we are back on track to compete. We passed 7/12 technical aspects due to a time crunch and are planning on passing the rest this morning. Let’s go owls!

Goals for today include passing technical inspection (this morning) and getting some time on the track. I’ll be posting a link to follow the live results of our technical inspection as well as any official track times we have. Stay tuned!

Our Story

This unique interdisciplinary group of students represents all academic years and over ten different majors at Rice University. Rice Undergraduates participate in a large-scale, multidisciplinary design project, enabling them to gain hands-on experience in topics outside their major and work alongside students from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds. This club also provides an opportunity to practice teamwork, leadership, collaboration, and professional skills.

The team participated in its first competition in Spring 2012 at the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas (SEMA), an international competition which scores vehicles based on their energy efficiency. The RSC Enterprise placed at an impressive second in the Solar Prototype category. The Rice Electric Vehicle team hopes to continue serving as a tangible application and example of the engineering excellence at Rice University.
