🌦️ Leadership doesn’t just appear overnight.
Leadership develops from emotional stability, gaining strength with every decision, challenge, and relationship.

For young people especially, learning how to regulate emotions, stay grounded, and bounce back from setbacks is what transforms them from reactive to resilient—and from uncertain to strong leaders.

Think of it like weather: storms will come, but stability helps us stand firm and even grow through the rain.

I created this quick Emotional Stability Quiz—to help you measure where your young person stands right now and what skills can help them shine with more confidence and compassion.

Tomorrow’s leaders are being shaped today—one steady step at a time.

✨ Last week, I shared about Judge Sparkle Sooknanan and the power of shining leadership—leadership that stands up for the vulnerable and doesn’t bow to greed or fear.

Here's good news: we don’t have to wait for the courtroom to see that kind of courage. We can start cultivating it in our own hearts and in the hearts of young people now.

Too often, youth are dismissed as lost, listless, or lacking drive.
But I believe - no, I know - those very same young people can become conscious, compassionate leaders who curate a better world—when we invest in them early, when we invest in their emotional health and growth.

That’s why I created the Mental Health 101 Bootcamp for Young Leaders. This bootcamp gives teens and young adults the tools of resilience, identity, and self-awareness—so they can lead with confidence and compassion.
Parents, educators, mentors: let’s not overlook the quiet achievers. Let’s equip them to shine.

✨ Let’s talk about shining leadership.

Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan (yes, I’m punning her lovely name) recently issued an emergency order blocking the attempted deportation of unaccompanied Guatemalan children—some already on flights.

With one decision, she brought light into a dark situation, standing up for the vulnerable and against unchecked power.

That’s what leadership looks like when it shines—confident, secure, and bold enough to act with integrity even under pressure.

Here’s my heart’s truth: we need more of that kind of leadership right now. Leadership that refuses to dim when power, greed, or fear try to take center stage and bully their way forward.

I’m calling on the overlooked achievers and underestimated voices—the observant, the compassionate, the ones who live by integrity. You may dismiss yourself as not big or strong enough to stand up. But together, we can resist what is repulsive and wrong.
How are you shining as a leader?

And I’m calling on those who nurture our youth.
We can begin building this kind of leadership in them early.

In my next post, I’ll share a bit more about the course I created to give young people the beginning foundation for emotional health.

This is how we can help young people sparkle—by equipping them with identity and self-awareness, calmness and compassion—so they can lead our future well. ✨

On Sundays, We do scripture --
Sure, leadership renders some form of power, but it is really about purpose and filling the promise of God - bringing love to a hurting world. When we forget this, we are moreso led by power then by being vessels of God's love. This scripture, a staple on First Sundays in the Baptist church, calls us in to constantly examine our whats and whys - what are we working for (or more importantly Who) and why is our leadership important? With the increasing divide in how values are expressed, take time to examine your heart to remember why you believe what you believe, why you support the causes you do, who is the ultimate guide in your life.

32 years today Designing Women left the air, but it's a show that people still talk about its impact. Some of the best writing in television paired with an incredible cast. The show was woke before woke became a term (or excuse) before it was in our modern lexicon.

Dixie Carter's rants as Julia Sugarbaker are as iconic as any tv performance. What made them even more impressive is that Dixie was a conservative republican and in real life disagreed with character's convictions. So she made a deal with the producers that if she had to give one of her rants, she got to sing a song in a future episode.

Well good morning, Julia Sugarbaker!
One of my Spelman roomies posted this and it's so apropos for leadership work.
At minute mark 1:53, the dynamic Julia Sugarbaker states,
"One of the things I pray for is that people in power will get good sense, and that people with good sense will get power...."
Whew! Indeed.
May those in power gain wisdom and compassion, so that their positions are not just about holding power and creating personal gain, but bettering our world. Let those with wisdom and compassion take boldness to create their paths of leadership, let them make their ideas known and may they be well received.
And let us prepare our young people to lead well by giving them the grounding they need to understand themselves and support their communities with love, creativity and courage.
Justin Williams and I are offering such support through our Mental Health 101 Bootcamp. First round takes place in Beaumont starting June 16!

One cannot lead well if they are not well.
Thank you for sharing this tv history Adina Dulan Wright.

✨ On Sunday, we do Scripture:
Mental Health Awareness Month ✨

I hope mothers and those who mother are enjoying moments of stillness, peace and rest today. 🥰

Stillness is not weakness. It’s strategy for our emotional health.
In a world that tells you to hustle harder, God offers a different invitation: Be still.

This verse is a lifeline —when I didn’t have the answers, when my nervous system was shot, when my inner critic was too loud. This calls you to be still not just physically, but emotionally.

The most courageous thing you can do for your emotional health… is pause. Be with the discomfort and let what you know about God's goodness be with your discomfort.

Stillness is how we remember who we are. And whose we are. 💛

💬 Quote to remember: “Stillness is what your anxious body, your racing heart, and your overthinking mind are asking for.”
