Our team started the week observing CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering High School students engage in our Professional Short Film Project, in which students are tasked with transforming a screenplay into a short film. Students learn the physics behind cinematic lighting techniques to make their film look professional. Students are also exposed to the Computer Science of how cameras sense, represent, and compress data, and how that affects the cinematic qualities of the image. Along the way, students tapped into their creative side, explored a new side of Art class, and learned the very real-life skills of collaborating and iterating on projects.
During his inventXYZ partnership, Bryan Swormstedt has seen his students collaborate in way he doesn't always see in the classroom setting.
"The value this type of project offers to my class are those social skills that are getting lost these days, like collaboration, being able to communicate in a group, being able to redirect yourself, and not always relying on the teacher to redirect you," he said. "There is something about this group work -- putting cameras and lights in their hand -- that forces them to learn these skills."
CREC Theme Coach, John Tusch, loved seeing students engage in such an authentic way.
I saw kids today showing leadership, self-directed learning, student-centered learning, critical thinking, and problem solving all at once," he said. "I saw groups come together to solve problems … something freshmen are not always wanting to do, and they are doing it on a regular basis with you."
He also noticed something quite unique about the teacher experience.
"I saw the teacher being the guide on the side instead of being the sage on the stage," he said. "Mr. Swormstedt was completely in control but not at all in control. It was an exciting time and a fun thing to watch."
Thank you for hosting us Bryan Swormstedt and John Tusch!

Thank you Knox County, Williamson County, and Hamilton County Schools for joining us on a tour of Vū Studio in Nashville, Tennessee on Monday!
During the private tour, guests were able to see the cutting-edge film production studio in action, engage with the studio technologies, and learn about the new high-tech jobs that pay $100k+ available thanks to this technology. Thank you Vū for hosting us! We look forward to more joint ventures together!
We want your students to be prepared to take on these jobs. In addition to a suite of projects centered around AI, Web App Development, IoT Electronics, Product Design, and AR/VR, we are building a 6-part Virtual Film Production Project Sequence that teaches everything from lighting to video game development to motion capture animation to even architecture visualization.
We're looking to partner with 4 innovative school districts on this Film Production + Computer Science journey in Fall '24. Message us! Unreal Engine Epic Games

The Future of Work is coming. In fact, it's here. Are your students ready?
These students are on their way. Check out our new video that showcases Nebraska, Missouri, and Tennessee students engaged in inventXYZ projects.
Hear from Crete Superintendent, Josh McDowell, Ben Di’Chiara, Relationship Manager for the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network, and Joel Bramhall as they reflect on their inventXYZ journey.
We are reserving implementation slots for the 24-25 school year now. If you want your students to be ready for the Future of Work, message us.

Imagine a world with no sugar, no sweetness, no dessert.
We will introduce this real-world scenario to sophomores at Peabody High School today and spend the next four weeks teaching them computational biology (the application of computer science to biology) to restore sugar to the world!
Although this scenario is simulated, it’s based on a real world problem - Rhizomania really does affect the sugar beet crop, and the solution the students will accomplish is pretty close to how farmers & scientists battle against the disease!
