I wanted to introduce myself and tell you why I started tutoring.

My name is Mariam, and I'm the face behind Tutor and Excel. The last few years of my life have been like a roller coaster and have truly shaped the person I am now. After getting married, going to college to study computer science, and having my very own bundle of joy, I thought I had my whole life figured out. However I quickly realized that wasn't the case! The more I delve into it, the more I realized although I loved programming and problem solving, it wasn't the right career for me, especially with my family obligations.

But I'm still glad I studied it because it gave me the opportunity to find the career I was really passionate about all along. I had tutored part time as a side gig to pay for my classes but quickly realized I loved working with kids and helping them overcome their struggles in math and learn the problem solving techniques that I learned in my degree. I'm constantly studying math in my free time as well so I can always be up to date with all the new methods they're teaching in schools.

I decided to tutor grades 7 to 10 because I feel like that's where I'm most needed and also where I started struggling in math myself. I know everyone has different struggles which is why I have options whether your child needs one on one support, or would like to be part of a small learning group. I love this career because I get to watch students become more confident and excited about math and I get the flexibility to spend time with my own family.
