Note: This works with ALL root position triad and four note chord arpeggios. For the ones that don't start on 1, find where in the pattern it starts on the thumb and prepare those fingers (you would basically practice on an inversion). For example, Bb Major arpeggio's prepared finger pattern is 124 on D F Bb.

In addition to what's demonstrated in the video, here are some additional tips:

👉It's important when practicing hand positions to avoid cutting off the value or incorrectly accenting the last note before shifting to the next position. To avoid this, give your last note the full value and correct articulation, and pause before you shift quickly to the next. Remember that the playing of the note and the preparation of notes are two separate actions!

👉Avoiding and preventing technical injuries come from optimizing and making your piano technique effective and efficient. After you play a note, depending on the context it's important to assess how much to retract your hand position - many students tend to hold stretched/tense hand positions for longer than what is necessary. This is why in this example, it's important to keep the thumb close, but not tucked, as you move through the arpeggios. Both tucking too much and keeping the thumb too far apart creates tension in the hand that builds up over time and as you ramp up the speed.

I hope you can take something away from today's vid, and follow me your piano bestie for more piano tips like this every day so you can also play like a pro! ✨
