Clay. Art. Life. Center for Centering is a school and studio for deepening practices centering around clay and additional creative endeavors.

We welcome all levels of experience and collaborations across media. Center for Centering is a studio for centering the practice and process of making with clay. We have an Artist-in-Residence program for artists not residing in Houston (on hold due to COVID-19) and a Resident Artist Program for artists with which we share an orbit.

Happy World Day for Cultural Diversity!

Today celebrates the rich diversity of our world’s cultures and encourages intercultural dialogue to promote peaceful coexistence. This plate epitomizes the prosperous dialogue between Turkey, Italy, and China in the 16th century: the shape is inspired by the Italian tondino, the blue-and-white color scheme and visual motifs by Chinese porcelain, and the leafy spiral decoration by Ottoman Turkish designs.

___
"Tondino," Turkey, first half of the 16th century, stonepaste; painted in blue under transparent glaze, MFAH, Museum purchase.
